2014.

After an unbelievable 2013, there’s that awakened excitement again in everyone. It’s another year for resolutions, filling up bucket lists, pushing the self to work out more, study harder and fulfill goals in aspects that mean something to us.

It’s a clean slate for dreaming and doing.

I’ll admit that, as a storyteller, I’ve given a lot of thought into the first story I should share for the new year. Something short of visiting a private island/resort definitely has a hook to it but it has more than enough meat to be something more meaningful than just crossing off riding a private plane off the bucket list.

So if I may, I’d like to share a story on dreaming.

If you’re like me, you’ve made at least one joke in your life about taking over the world, creating the next fashion statement trend or owning a private island or a private plane in your life.

While I’m pretty sure that I haven’t succeeded in world domination or putting small wings on the part of the sock that covers the ankle, this storyteller is very thankful to have ridden a plane built to fly less than 20 people at a time to an island you can see from end to end just a few minutes before landing in it.

On the last day of 2013, a very thoughtful family flew me and the foundation I am a part of to play for their event.

When you fly in a group made of fresh graduates and college students, you really see and hear the wonder in their eyes and their words:

“What? This is just where we get our room keys? It’s huge!”
“We’re staying in a villa?!”
“Grabe, pwede mag-Hunger games dito!”
“Is that a parking for segways?”
“That’s Heart Evangelista!”
“I’ve never seen so many stars in my life!”

and, of course:

“LET’S GET A PICTURE WITH THE PLANE!”

While I am a firm believer of pursuing goals and being practical about them, I’m hoping that we never forget to dream a little bigger. I know a couple of people who won’t even consider jolting down something close to impossible on their bucket list because they’re scared they’ll never get to cross it off.

Trust me, there are bigger things than your need to tick something off that list. Do what you can and do your best but you owe it to yourself and the rest of the world to dream and dream big!

Just before we jump into the world of work and school again, hoping that we have it in ourselves to dream those dreams we’re a little scared to dream about.

Here’s my first jump into 2014 by starting a storytelling blog with this story. Here’s to making more dreams come true.
